Esther Lai has extensive experience in arbitration for insurance disputes, insurance related claims and litigation including personal injuries and fatal cases, negligence claims, contractor all risks claims, careless driving, industrial summonses and death inquests. She has handled various high-profile cases in Hong Kong including tragic traffic cases, claims for catastrophic injuries, SARS EC cases and stroke cases.

Prior to joining Munros, she practised with various law firms in Hong Kong, including a long-established leading insurance practice law firm in Hong Kong, for more than 21 years where she focuses on insurance litigation and insurance policy advisory matters. Since her articled clerkship, she has been serving insurer clients.

She obtained her law degree in Hong Kong in 1987 and was admitted in 1990. She was previously a part-time guest speaker at the Faulty of Law, City Polytechnic (now known as City University), Deputy Presiding Officer at Labour Tribunal and is a qualified mediator of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) of the UK and of Law Society of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Association Limited. She was also ranked a Leading Lawyer in Insurance by Asia Pacific Legal 500. She speaks fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Esther has served the community through various organizations. She was on the board of directors of City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. She gave talks to the insurers and at the HKFI training sessions. Currently she serves in the advisory committee on Applied Mathematics of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and as a mentor for Faculty of Laws, University of Hong Kong.

1990: Admitted as a Solicitor and continued to work as an assistant solicitor with Messrs Gallant Ho in property litigation, IP & PI litigation, banking litigation and general civil litigation

1992: Assistant solicitor with Messrs Tsang, Chan & Wong specializing in banking litigation and insurance litigation

1996: Assistant solicitor with Deacons, Litigation Department; doing principally insurance litigation

2002: Partner with Deacons specializing in insurance and personal injury litigation

2009 - present: CEDR Accredited Mediator

2009 - present: HK Law Society Accredited Mediator

2013-present: HKMAAL Accredited Mediator

2018: Partner with Kwok Yih & Chan specializing in insurance and personal injury litigation and advisory

2020: Partner with Munros specializing in insurance and personal injury litigation
